If you are building an RO pretreatment train, you will almost certainly meet the FRP tank. Here is what it is and when to specify one.

What is an FRP tank?

An FRP (fiberglass-reinforced plastic) tank is a corrosion-resistant pressure vessel filled with filter media - usually quartz sand, activated carbon or anthracite. Water flows through the media to remove suspended solids, colour, odour and part of the organic load before the water reaches the RO membrane.

Where it is used

FRP or stainless steel?

FRP is light, corrosion-resistant and economical for most pretreatment, which is why it is the default for sand and carbon vessels. Choose stainless steel when pressure is higher, when hygiene rules demand it (food, pharma), or when metal contact is preferred. We supply both - see our FRP and quartz-sand treatment tanks and the FRP tank manufacturer page.

Sizing and valves

Standard sizes start at 1054 (10-inch diameter, 54-inch tall) and go up, with top-mounted multiport valves or flanged connections. The right size depends on your flow and backwash requirement; we can size it from your flow rate and feed quality.

Proper pretreatment protects your downstream membranes and extends their life - well worth getting right at the design stage.
